What are the things asked for when you try for a job?

Experience.

Potential.

Skills.

Soft skills.

Culture.

No matter how many blogs someone reads about the hiring criteria when it comes to employing Engineers, these five words written above can be found everywhere. In fact, even the questions asked during job interviews revolve around those five words.

Experience: companies who want exceptionally skilled employees will always look for experience — the more of it the better. For undergraduates, or students just attaining their Bachelors Degree or Diploma, it poses as a big question.

Well, that matter can be solved to an extent by interning at the right places and working on real-time projects. What the Companies want, are people who can solve real-time problems efficiently. If the projects are impressive enough, then you have the right experience to apply for the job you like.

Potential: Companies which don’t look for experience, look for potential. A person’s will to learn, determination to work better and an optimistic attitude are what companies look for.

Skills: A person’s work, his confidence in his skills, and how quickly and efficiently he can do his job is what displays a person’s skills the best.

Soft skills and Culture might sound very trivial, but prove to be extremely important when the employee has to fit in the team, the company’s culture, or has to communicate with someone in relation to his work.
